New Delhi, July 1 (ANI): Hundreds of doctors and nurses marched here today to protest against the growing number of cases involving female foeticide. Shouting slogans and waving placards, the demonstrators called on authorities to crack down harder on private clinics accused of being involved in illegal sex determination and abortion of female foetuses. The doctors said that they want to express solidarity against female foeticide and at the same time draw the attention of the people to the fact that doctors in general are not responsible for the social evil. "The gender ratio in India is not in favour of the women. Over the years, we have seen that we are being blamed for this thing. We are here to express our solidarity towards the cause. We want to tell that it is a social cause and not the fault of the medical fraternity," said Narendra Malhotra, a doctor. India's sex ratio is one of the world's most skewed, with an average of 933 females recorded for every 1,000 males in the 2001 census. (ANI)
