New Delhi, Feb.2 Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram will be visiting Manipur and Nagaland on Tuesday to take a first hand account of the security situation in the two northeast States facing insurgency problem.

This will be Chidambaram's second visit to the northeast after taking over charge as the Union Home Minister. He first visited Assam on New Year Day after three serial blasts in Guwahati rocked the State.

The latest trip holds significance considering the Centre's growing concern over insurgent activities in the northeast parts of the country.

Manipur has witnessed repeated violence by nearly a dozen militant groups in the recent past claiming several lives. The state, bordering Myanmar, has seen a number of kidnapping cases and peddling of drugs which find their way easily from across the porous border.

Chidambaram during his visit will hold a security review meeting at the State secretariat with Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh and other senior officials.

He wll later fly to Nagaland's commercial capital Dimapur where is scheduled to hold a security review meeting at the Police Training Academy at Chumukedima.

The Home Minister is keen on finding a permanent political solution to the six-decades-old Naga insurgency problem and had said that talks with National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM) would continue.

Chidambaram is expected to stress on the need for ensuring strict enforcement of the ceasefire ground rules. (ANI)
