Singur, Sept 2 (ANI): The shutdown at the TATA Motor's manufacturing plant in Singur continued for the fifth day today. The management says conditions are not conducive for work, even as the Trinamool Congress sponsored protest entered its tenth consecutive day. Meanwhile, the movement of vehicles on the Durgapur Express Highway was also less this morning. On Monday, Trinamool Congress leader Partha Chatterjee met West Bengal Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi following the latter's initiative to resolve the deadlocked over Singur issue. It could not be ascertained if Chatterjee delivered any communication from Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee to the Governor who wrote to her last Saturday, urging her to take part in the negotiations. According to a source, Mamata Banerjee is ready for talks with the State Government. For Tata Motors, the trouble started after the Left Front-led Government acquired farmland in Singur for the proposed factory. The state offered compensation in return, but some villagers complained that they had not received their dues. Others declined compensation. In all, around 400 acres of land is still being fiercely disputed out of the 1,000 acres acquired by the State Government. (ANI)
