London, Jul 3 A pub that regulars call "Cheers" has topped the list of pubs in Britain. The Wych Elm in Burntwood, Staffs, beat hundreds of pubs to top a nationwide survey, and undercover assessors gave it full marks for service, a friendly welcome and food quality. Wych Elm regular Jay Faulkner said that it was just like the pub in hit US sitcom "You know everyone - it's got a brilliant atmosphere," the Sun quoted 28-year-old Faulkner as saying. "The carvery is really great, the beer is good too - you can't go wrong," he said. Pensioner Bob Wheeler, 75 - a regular for 15 years - put the success down to landlords Jodie Allison, 23, and Mark Hickman, 26. "They keep you coming back, they're out of this world," the retired coach driver said. Tim Ogle of Retail Eyes, which carried out the survey, added: "In the Midlands, staff seem to know their customers much more." The top ten pubs in Britain are: 1 Wych Elm, Burntwood. 2 Chimneys, Ellesmere Port, Cheshire. 3 Admiral Rodney, Wollaton, Notts. 4 Horse and Jockey, Walsall. 5 Punchbowl, Nottingham. 6 Red Lion, Weymouth, Dorset. 7 La Tasca, Newcastle Upon Tyne. 8 Crow and Gate, Crowborough, East Sussex. 9 Scarborough, Eastfield, North Yorks. 10 La Tasca, Birmingham.
