McCain uncomfortable discussing condoms, teen pregnancy

Washington, Sept.3 (ANI): Republican presidential nominee John McCain seems uncomfortable when explaining his position on contraceptives and teen pregnancy issues.

According to The Sun, when reporters asked him last year if he supported grants for sex education in the United States, if programmes should include directions for using contraceptives and if he supported President Bush's policy of promoting abstinence, McCain said: "Ahhh, I think I support the president's policy."

When asked if he thought contraceptives helped stop the spread of HIV, he replied: "You've stumped me."

McCain said later he was sure he opposed government spending on contraceptives.

McCain has also opposed some proposals to pay for teen-pregnancy prevention programs.

In 1988 he voted for the Family Support Act, which required teen mothers who received public assistance to remain in high school and, in some cases, live with their parents.(ANI)
