4 including 3 Bangladeshis arrested in Tripura serial blasts

Agartala, Oct 3 Tripura police has arrested four persons, including three Bangladeshi nationals, in connection with the Wednesday's serial blasts in Agartala today.

According to a source, the four arrested persons were identified as Nurul Amin (43) from Gajaria and three Bangladeshi nationals Mohammad Joynal (28) from Chittagong district in Bangladesh, Roshan Jamal from Sylhet and Abdul Malik (22) from Rangpur.

The three Bangladeshi nationals were arrested from Lankamura area of Agartala by the police late on Thursday night while they were trying to cross the border.

The suspects were produce before the court of Judicial Magistrate P. C. Biswas today who ordered a seven days police remand.

Police suspect all four members of Al-Qaida or Harkat-ul-Jihad-al Islami Bangladesh (HuJI-B).

On Thursday evening, Tripura's Deputy General of Police Pranay Sahay said during a press conference that cross border movements of criminals and terrorists, along the border with Bangladesh near Agartala, were possible due to gaps in the border fencing.

He also confirmed that there are over 25 camps of Tripura militant groups across the border in Bangladesh soil.

The Criminal Investigation Department of the state police is investigating the serial blasts.

A two-member team of the National Security Guards headed by Major Karambhir and another team from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory from Kolkata are assisting the Tripura police with the probe in the serial blasts, which put the hilly state on the country's terror map.

Additional personnel of Assam Rifles and Tripura State Rifles have been deployed in Agartala to beef up security.

At least two persons were killed and about 76 were injured on Wednesday when five bombs went off within 30 minutes in crowded market places and a bus stand. The first blast went off at the Radhanagar Bus Stand around 7.30 p.m. Explosions also took place in Maharaja Ganju Bazar, Gobind Ballab Pant market, Bottala and the Agartala Motorstand.
