Islamabad, Nov.3 Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that his party, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), would oppose the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) both inside and outside parliament.

Terming the ordinance as a 'black law meant to indemnify corruption', Sharif said his party could launch a massive agitation against the law and may also challenge the ordinance in the court of law.

"It (NRO) can never become a law. Even if it is passed by parliament, it will be open to judicial scrutiny," Sharif told media persons during a press conference after holding a meeting of PML-N's parliamentary party.

"Those who dub us as a friendly opposition forget that we had staged a long march to press the government to reinstate judges sacked by Musharraf," Sharif said while referring to the recent remarks by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan.

He said the issue of tabling the NRO in parliament was not discussed during his recent meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari, and advised the PPP government not to bring the controversial ordinance in the House, as it would then seriously damage the reputation of the 'supreme law-framing body.'

"The government should not put democracy to any test," The Dawn quoted Sharif, as saying.

"Now, enough is enough on the NRO issue," he added.

Sharif vehemently denied reports that the PML-N, under a deal with the government, would abstain from voting on the NRO.

"Abstention would mean supporting the bill. There should be no grey area and everything should be in black and white on this mportant issue," he said. (ANI)
