New Delhi, March 5 (IANS) The Indian government Friday described as 'most unfortunate' the death of a three-year-old Indian in Australia, adding that the cause of the death was yet to be determined.

'We are yet to get details of this most unfortunate incident,' External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna said in the Rajya Sabha about the death of Gurshan Singh Channa.

Channa's body was found on Wildwood Road, Oaklands Junction of Melbourne Thursday night after a massive search following a complaint by his parents who were staying in Lalor on a holiday.

The incident came to light after Australian Foreign Minister Stephen Smith visited New Delhi Wednesday in the wake of a series of attacks against Indians in that country.

A team of homicide detectives were searching for clues to know about the death.

'There are no external injuries on the body' and the cause of the death was yet to be determined, Krishna said.

'We have asked the (Indian) consulate (in Melbourne) to contact the family. The consulate is ready to offer any assistance they might need,' the minister added.

The statement from the external affairs minister came after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members raised the issue immediately after the question hour.
