Mumbai, March 6 (IANS) The Mumbai police have seized over one ton of narcotics worth several crore rupees in the open market and arrested 19 people, including three foreigners, police said Saturday.

Sleuths of the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) raided several locations in Mumbai during the past three days and recovered 900 kg of marijuana (ganja), 80 kg of hashish (charas), 30 gm of cocaine and three vehicles which were used to transport the drugs, Police Commissioner D. Shivanandhan told reporters.

The consignment is valued at nearly Rs.1 crore but is worth several times more in the open market, narcotics officials said.

The police have also arrested 19 people, including three Nigerians, five people from Andhra Pradesh, one from Jammu & Kashmir and the rest from in and around Mumbai, he said.

'While the consignment of ganja came from Orissa, the charas came from Jammu and Kashmir,' Shivanandhan said.

The raids were carried out in different parts of Mumbai and its suburbs March 2-4.

'Since one of the consignments came from Jammu, we shall be sending our policemen there to conduct further investigations,' he said.

The police are investigating whether the consignment was intended for disposal in Mumbai or some other cities.

Shivanandhan informed that in the last eight months, the ANC had effected seizures of nearly Rs.5 crore worth of drugs.
