Singur, Aug 6 (ANI): West Bengal's Home Secretary Ashok Mohan Chakraborty has assured the management of TATA Motors that their small car plant in Singur will be provided with full security.

Speaking to the media after reviewing security at the controversial site, Chakraborty said: "The only reason to come here was to review the tensed situation here. We were told that there is a situation of civil war here. I would like to inform you that no abnormal situation is prevailing in Singur and work is progressing well," said Chakraborty.

"Even if any possibility of civil war arises, local police and local administration has provided all necessary security arrangements to Tata Motors so that that they can continue their work here without any hindrance," Chakraborty added.

Chakraborty and state police chief A.B. Vohra reviewed the security arrangements with local officials and Tata Motors representatives.

Tata Motors started to build its factory in Singur in January 2007 to make the world's cheapest car.

The much awaited one-lakh rupee car, Nano, was unveiled by Tata Motors chairman Ratan Tata in New Delhi in January this year, and it is likely to hit roads by October. But the project, which has become a test case for the ruling Communists party in West Bengal, has had some farmers declaring that the government took their land against their will.

There have been regular protests in West Bengal this year over the acquisition of agriculture land for industry. (ANI)
