Sindh Assembly member arrives on stretcher to cast her vote in Pak Prez poll

Karachi, Sept 6 (ANI): A senior PPP member of the Sindh Provincial Assembly Ruqqaya Soomro reached the Assembly on stretcher to cast her vote in the ongoing presidential poll today.

According to The News, Soomro, a former Member of National Assembly (MNA) and now a sitting member of the Sindh Assembly, was the first lawmaker to come to the Assembly lying on a stretcher to cast her vote and set an example for others, despite her severe illness.

Meanwhile, voting is continuing in the National Assembly in Islamabad and all the four Provincial Assemblies, namely Punjab, Sindh, NWFP and Balochistan, to elect the next president of the country.

Polling began at 1010 am and would continue till 3:00 pm without break.

A total of 442 members of the Senate and the National Assembly would cast their votes.

The Pakistan Presidential Electoral College comprises of Senate's 100 members, National Assembly 342, Punjab Assembly 371, Sindh Assembly 168, Frontier Assembly 124 and 65 members of Balochistan Assembly.

The result would be announced by the Returning Officer attached to Chief Election Commissioner in the evening today, after which a notification with regard to the next President would be issued.

Finally, the newly elected president would be administered the oath of office and secrecy today by the country's Chief Justice of Supreme Court. (ANI)
