Leh, Nov 6 Fighting all odds, the regional filmmakers of Ladakh are hopeful that they will be able to create a niche for themselves in the film industry.

Inspired largely by Bollywood song and dance movies, Ladakhi films are shot on a modest budget of anywhere between rupees 100 thousand to rupees one million.

The crew of these movies is drawn from regular job goers, who do not have any professional training.

"The crew of our films including actors and director are not professional. In spite of that we make movies that are inspired by Bollywood and Hollywood flicks," said Tsering Zangpo, a film director.

In the absence of a theatre, the movies are shown in an auditorium. The filmmakers say that a film shown in the auditorium looses its charm due to lack of facilities.

"We show our movies in an auditorium through a projector. The capacity of the hall in the auditorium is low and because of the limited facilities in the auditorium, we are unable to project sound and light of our films," said a film director/writer.

However, with Ladakhi films getting popular in the region, facilities have improved and moviemakers are optimistic that they will be able to make good films.

"Nowadays, film making is developing here as compared to what it used to be. Earlier we used to shoot on a VHS camera but now we shoot of on a DV. We have now editing and studio facilities for film production. In the coming times we hope that people will get to see good films," said Tsetan Angchuk, a film director/writer. (ANI)
