Islamabad, June 7 (ANI): Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that an early, just and peaceful settlement of the Kashmir issue as per the wishes of the Kashmiris would help Pakistan and India to achieve harmony in the Valley.

Gilani said this while talking to veteran Indian journalist and parliamentarian Kuldip Nayar.

Gilani said the relations between the two countries always improved whenever there was a civilian government in Pakistan, and his government would continue to take more confidence-building measures (CBMs) to further improve ties in different fields.

Face to face dialogue will also be increased to achieve the objectives, he added.

Gilani said that the restoration of the 1973 Constitution to its original form was the PPP-led government's top priority because it wants the Parliament to be supreme and sovereign. The constitutional balance as envisioned in the 1973 Constitution should be restored, he said and added that he was confident that Pakistan would gradually evolve into a two-party system.

The prime minister added that his government was also committed to cementing the independence of the judiciary and the reinstatement of the sacked judges, currently being worked out with the coalition partners. He said these issues would be settled soon, as his party is in the forefront of the independent judiciary movement and has made many sacrifices for it. (ANI)
