New Delhi, Oct. 7 Following its no-show in the last Lok Sabha elections, the BJP has resorted to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's name to attract voters in the upcoming assembly elections in Maharashtra and Haryana.

Senior party leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, who met ailing Vajpayee at his residence on Wednesday, quoted the former PM as saying that voters should support the BJP in both the states.

"Congress government has failed fully in tackling problems related to electricity, water, roads, drought, and floods. Friends this is a time to teach a lesson to people, who are responsible for the condition of the state. Other parties in the fray do not have foresightedness and a solid plan for the development of the state. So, in such scenario only the Bharatiya Janata Party-Shiv Sena alliance is the only option," Naqvi wrote out from Vajpayee's apeal.

Naqvi added that leadership and guidance of Vajpayee and his colleague Lal Krishna Advani have always been vigour for the BJP.

"See leadership and guidance of Atalji and Advaniji have always provided energy to the Bharatiya Janata Party," Naqvi said.

The Congress-NCP combine is hoping for a hattrick in Maharashtra.

Haryana witnesses a triangular contest mainly between Congress, INLD and BJP.

The BJP- INLD alliance had swept the 1999 assembly polls in Haryana and ruled the state for five years. But in the 2005 elections, INLD lost its majority, winning just nine. (ANI)
