New Delhi, Nov.7 By-elections for one Lok Sabha seat and 31 Assembly seats in seven states remained by and large peaceful, as over 60 per cent of voters turned out on Saturday. Saturday's polls were conducted under the watchful eyes of security forces and paramilitary personnel who were deployed to maintain a strict vigil in all constituencies undergoing elections. 53 per cent polling was registered in Firozabad Lok Sabha Constituency, where Congress candidate and veteran Bollywood actor Raj Babbar contested against Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav's daughter-in- law. The Lok Sabha by-election was necessitated after Akhilesh Yadav, Mulayam's son vacated the seat and retained Kannauj seat. Meanwhile, on the 11 State Assembly seats, 41.67 per cent polling was recorded. Two minor incidents of violence were reported from Uttar Pradesh in a clash during polling at a booth in Jasrana area of Firozabad parliamentary constituency. However, State Chief Election Officer Debasish Sen said that in West Bengal, a turnout of 65 per cent was recorded in the by-elections to 10 assembly seats. (ANI)
