New Delhi, Feb 8 (IANS) After a warm and cloudy morning, rain over the national capital Monday brought down the day temperature by five degrees compared to Sunday, the weatherman said.

Owing to western disturbances, Delhi received light rainfall Monday evening, the official added.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more rain or thundershowers accompanied with hail storm in next 48 hours.

Delhi recorded a maximum of 25.1 degrees Celsius, two notches above the average while the minimum settled at 13.5 degrees Celsius, four notches above the average.

Delhi Sunday recorded the warmest February day in the last five years, with the maximum temperature settling at 30.1 degrees Celsius.

'The rain is likely to revive cold conditions in the capital and strong winds will start blowing by night. The maximum and minimum temperatures Tuesday are likely to settle around 23 degrees Celsius and 16 degrees Celsius, respectively,' an IMD official said.

The Met office said that the western disturbance over northwest India has caused widespread precipitation activity over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand and is likely to stay the same for the next 48 hours.

'Light to moderate rain or thundershowers would also occur over Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana, Chandigarh and Uttar Pradesh within the next two days,' the official said.
