New Delhi, Feb.09, Vice Chancellor of Indira Gandhi National Open University [IGNOU] Prof. V. N. Rajasekharan Pillai addressing the meeting organized by The State Information and Public Relations Officers Association (SIPRA) at Himachal Bhavan said that IGNOU with 71 centers and presence in all the States is the largest University in the country. IGNOU aims to take higher education to the lowest strata of the society where it was denied and deprived for centuries. The university offers courses in all disciplines ranging from Science subjects of Performing Arts- with special stress on tribal arts. New schemes and courses are in the pipeline. Apart from this Vocational trainings are also imparted by IGNOU. The V.C highlighted the need for extending the reach of IGNOU to touch the society at the grass root level. He also stressed that support from SIPRA and other NGO should help IGNOU in a big way in this direction.
