Germany beat New Zealand to move into semis

New Delhi, March 9 Germany romped into the semi-final with a 5-2 victory over New Zealand in their last Pool A match of the Hockey World Cup here Tuesday.

New Delhi, March 9 (IANS) Germany romped into the semi-final with a 5-2 victory over New Zealand in their last Pool A match of the Hockey World Cup here Tuesday.

Christoph Menke, Florian Fuchs scored in the first half to put Germany 2-0 up. The defending champions made it 3-0 in the second half after a strike from Philip Witte.

But New Zealand came back to reduce the margin 2-3 through Shea McAleese and Nick Wilson.

Germany, however, slotted two more through Moritz Furste and Matthias Witthaus.

Germany finished their league engagement with 11 points from five matches, that include three wins and two drawn matches.
