Kolkata, April 9 It's election time and the election fever seems fast gripping the city of joy, as political parties' symbols are inspiring latest fashion statements in Kolkata.

With elections round the corner, the designer sister duo Mona-Pali, have launched a series of sarees inspired by political party symbols and colours to attract the politically aware customers.

The first set of designer sarees at MonaPali has the party colours and symbols of the Congress, Trinamool Congress and the BJP.

From the Bharatiya Janata Party's lotus symbol to the Congress's hand symbol, all have been used with great finesse and creative imagination by designers Mona and Pali to create smart, exquisite and modern-look sarees.

Customers like Minoo Kapoor and Suchitra Agarwal feel that these sarees can be worn not only to make a political statement or to canvass for one's favourite party but also for their sheer beauty.

The sarees at MonaPali have been crafted so brilliantly that even when the elections are over, they can still be draped as designer wears without any qualms.

Suchitra Agarwal also pointed out that these sarees were very much in keeping with the ongoing 'Jago India' campaign to create political consciousness regarding voter rights and duties.

Designer Mona said she had always been inspired by the political symbols and saw the elections as a good opportunity to give expression to her political vision.

In the days to come, Mona-Pali are planning more sarees with Mayawati's Elephant symbol and the CPI(M)'s working class hammer and sickle symbols.

Designer Pali said with the election fever gripping the entire country, as designers, they felt bound to respond to the mood of the people and create something in keeping with the trend.

Pali added that it's a challenge to work with non-traditional motifs. Given a chance, the designers want to dress political stalwarts like Congress's Sonia Gandhi, Trinamool's Mamata Banerjee, BSP's Mayawati, BJP's Sushma Swaraj, and AIADMK's Jayalalithaa in their party colours and symbols, albeit stylishly.
