Gandhinagar, March 10 (IANS) Eight people were arrested and Rs.8 lakh seized from them when the Gujarat Police busted a ring taking bets on an Australia-New Zealand cricket match.

The arrests took place late Tuesday when police raided a farm house in Kagrol village in Himmatnagar, 120 km from here. The police also seized 66 mobile phones used in the illegal business.

The Aussie-New Zealand match was being played in New Zealand. The arrested men were 'hardened professionals', police said Wednesday.

Police sources said the gamblers had shifted from urban to rural areas to avoid arrest.
