New Delhi, March 10 (IANS) India is investigating 15 new cases of dumping of products from China, the government said Wednesday.

'In nine out of 15 anti-dumping investigations, the preliminary findings recommended imposition of provisional duty,' Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jyotiraditya Scindia informed the Rajya Sabha.

'The government has restricted import of radial tyres for vehicles. Only toys which confirm to the international standard and are certified are allowed for import to India. Import of mobile handsets without International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) numbers or with all zeroes has been prohibited,' Scindia said.

India had announced restrictions in June last year on the import of all toys that fail to meet international safety standards. The ban actually related to Chinese toys.

'Trade defence measures are available to the domestic industry to counter unfair trade practices followed by exporters of goods from other countries,' the minister said.

'In case a product is imported into the country at less than its normal value and its causes injury to the domestic industry, the latter can move to Director General of Anti-Dumping and Allied Duties (DGAD) for imposition of anti-dumping duty and to Directorate General of Safeguards for imposition of safeguard duty,' he said.

Imports from China to India during April-September in the current fiscal stood at $14.4 billion (Rs.72,395 crore). China's exports to India during 2008-09 fiscal stood at $29.4 billion (Rs.1.47 trillion) while it was $21.8 billion (Rs.1.09 trillion) the year earlier.
