Need to strike a balance between environment and development: Meira Kumar

New Delhi, Oct 10 Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Meira Kumar today said there is a need to strike a balance between environment and development as we cannot opt for one in favour of the other.

Kumar was speaking at "Hope 2008" International Conference on alcohol, drug abuse, HIV/AIDS, environment, population and human rights in Mumbai.

While speaking on the issue of drug abuse, Kumar said, "In a country as big as India it is not possible for the Government alone to work in this field."

"A public-private partnership between Government and the non-Governmental organizations is necessary," added Kumar. (ANI)
