Naggar (HP), Oct 10 The International Roerich Memorial Trust in Naggar in Himachal Pradesh came alive with music and dance on occasion of the 135th birth anniversary of famous Russian artist, writer and philosopher Nicholas Roerich.

Roerich, a Russian artist was born on October 9, 1874 in Saint Petersburg. His artistic documentation of the Himalayan grandeur is considered classic till date.

Various Indian and Russian artists paid tribute to Roerich through dance and music on the occasion.

"Its most befitting way to celebrate heritage of such big people's art and culture," said Allina Adamkova, director, International Roerich Memorial Trust.

Art lovers and followers of Roerich from seven countries assembled here to mark the occasion.

"We are happy to be here. We can see many people from various countries and one can form contacts and improve more action for culture and peace," said Andira, a visitor from Brazil.

Roerich was an outstanding artist, who created more than 7000 paintings, which can now be seen in some of the leading museums of the world.

His family's love for Indian culture brought the Roerichs to Mumbai in December 1923.

They started their tour of cultural centres and historic sites, meeting Indian scientists, scholars, artists and writers, till they finally settled in the Kulu valley. (ANI)
