London, Nov 10 Former England fast bowler Matthew Hoggard has signed a three-year deal with Leicestershire as their new captain.

Leicestershire and Sussex were competing for Hoggard, after he was released by Yorkshire despite being the club's top wicket-taker last season.

"I'm genuinely excited about the prospect of joining Leicestershire and taking charge of a young and talented squad. I was flattered by the amount of interest and support shown towards me from all quarters," The Sun quoted Hoggard, as saying.

"Leicestershire really stood out in terms of offering something different and at this stage of my career it will provide the new challenge I want. I've always wanted to test myself and I feel I still have a huge amount to offer the game," he added. (ANI)
