New Delhi, Nov 10 Around 100 school students participated in a walkathon here today to sensitise the people on issues related to health and education of underprivileged children .

Organised by the Smile foundation, a non-profit organisation, the walkathon was held under its nationwide campaign 'Be the Change', which is being held from November 7 to 13.

Holding banners and placards, students from various schools across Delhi, took to streets to do their bit for the cause.

The children were joined by social activist Nafisa Ali, who laid emphasis on the importance of working collectively by people at all levels to root out such disparities and take the country forward.

"For the progress of our country, it is important that we work together. Where there is NGO participation, private-public partnership, people's participation, then of course government is there, until we all work together, there will be hindrances in our country's progress," Nafisa said.

Beside Delhi, the walkathon is being organised in Kolkata, Bangalore, Goa, Chennai, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Vadodara and Nagpur.

Smile foundation is working for the upliftment of more than 100, 000 underprivileged children and youth across 21 states through more than 120 welfare projects on issues like education, healthcare and livelihood. (ANI)
