Hyderabad, Dec 10 (IANS) Alarmed over the spate of resignations by Congress MPs and legislators from the Andhra and Rayalaseema regions, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K. Rosaiah Thursday said the resolution on forming a Telangana state would be tabled in the assembly only after consultations.

Rosaiah advised MPs and legislators not to get agitated over the issue and resign as the process of moving a resolution had not even started.

'If necessary, the resolution will be moved in the assembly. Even if such a situation arises, the resolution will be passed only if it gets majority support,' he told reporters.

'Mr Chidambaram said the resolution will be moved. It does not mean that it will be moved immediately because there is a process for this and there are several stages in the process. We have to talk to people from other regions,' he said.

'I don't think that the state will be divided immediately.'

The chief minister said the central leadership of the party was monitoring the developments.

'Sonia Gandhi has called a meeting of Andhra and Rayalaseema regions this evening,' he said.

Rosaiah said he would also discuss the situation with his ministerial colleagues.

As many as 45 legislators of the ruling Congress, 17 of the main opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and 11 of the Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) have reportedly quit or offered to resign, saying they did not want to support the resolution to be tabled in the assembly for formation of Telangana state.
