Chandigarh, March 11 (IANS) Pandemonium prevailed in the Haryana assembly again Thursday during the general discussion on the state budget. The situation became so unruly that Speaker H.S. Chatha threatened to leave his chair if the members did not stop the chaos.
Chatha adjourned the house for half-an-hour after threatening to leave the chair.
Former chief minister and Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) chief Om Prakash Chautala started speaking on the budget proposals for the year 2010-11, which were presented in the house Wednesday.
'The Congress has returned with only 40 MLAs and has managed to come back to power in the state through horse trading,' said Chautala, who is also the opposition leader.
The statement led to angry reactions from the treasury benches as Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala strongly objected to it.
A series of heated exchanges of arguments followed between the Congress and INLD leaders. The house was then adjourned for half-an-hour.
Chatha said such disruptive behaviour of the legislators was intolerable in the assembly.
Opposition legislators, including 31 from INLD, were Monday suspended from the house due to their unruly behaviour. However, the speaker Tuesday revoked their suspension.
