Srinagar, July 11 (ANI): Kashmiris here have demanded probe into disappearances of their missing relatives. Gloom hung in the air and disappointment writ large on the faces of people as they sat with photographs of their missing kin.

The parents of the missing persons gathered under the aegis of 'The Association of Parents of Disappeared Persons' (APDP), seeking attention of state Governor N.N. Vohra.

The APDP has also called for a shutdown on August 30, coinciding with the 'International Day of the Disappeared.'

"We are giving out a message to the people through the media that on August 30, which is the International Day of Disappeared People, is completing its 25 years of institution. It will be observed across the world. We would like to appeal to the people that they should offer their support to us when we protest that day," said Mir Hafizullah, counsel for APDP.

According to APDP, an independent group representing parents of missing people in Kashmir, around 7,000 people have disappeared since 1989, after being arrested by security forces. (ANI)
