Musicians among Tibetans living in-exile honoured with awards in Dharamsala

Dharamshala, Oct 11 Soulful and soothing Tibetan music reverberated here when a number of artistes showcased their singing talent and mastery in playing musical instruments.

Language seemed to be no barrier for the multicultural and multilingual audience in appreciating and responding to the slow-paced melodious rendition by these Tibetan artistes.

The event was specially meant to showcase the hidden musical talent among Tibetans living in-exile and honour them at the Tibetans Music Awards 2009 function.

Fourth in the series, this event is held regularly to spot the hidden musical talents in the community of Tibetans living in various places and promote them.

"This is to honour Tibetan music, musicians, composers and producers," said Lobsang Wangyal, organiser of the function.

Slow-paced music reflecting the simplicity of Tibetans was the highlight of the event.he Tibetan artistes said that traditional songs and music are very important for them to keep to their roots and live peacefully even in-exile.

"This award is given to the various Tibetans in-exile and other musicians living in Tibet," said Dori, an award-winning singer.

Katherine, a musician from Australia, felt music is very important for Tibetans to feel positive about life.

"I think music is a good direction and good inspiration for young Tibetans to be involved in," said Katharine.

The event of the Tibetans Music Awards 2009, witnessed 15 awards being given in various categories, including best singer, best composer, best album, best lyrics and best traditional artiste. (ANI)
