Dr. Shan Nair honored with 'Bharat Samman' Award

Sunnyvale, Jan 15 (ANI/Business Wire India): Dr. Shan Nair, Co-founder of Nair and Co., a leading global integrated solution provider helping companies expand internationally, recently received the 2008 'Bharat Samman', an expatriate award that recognizes the economic and philanthropic achievements of the Indian Diaspora.

The award was presented by Sir Richard Stagg, British High Commissioner to India and hosted by the N.R.I. Institute during Pravasi Divas 2009.

Over 500 Diplomats, industrialists and government dignitaries including Mauritius High Commissioner to India Choonee Mookhesswur, U.K.'s Lord Khalid Hameed and Baroness Sandip Verma and Blair Gulland of U.K.'s Gulland Solicitors joined the five-hour extravaganza held at the Lalit Hotel's grand ballroom.

The awards were part of a three-day celebration during which Dr. Nair met with Chief Minister of Delhi, Sheila Dikshit, and chairman of India's law commission A.R Lakshmanan and also gave a talk on India's emergence as a world force. During his speech, Dr. Nair urged the business community to not forget India's poor.

"No one is mentioning India's poverty anymore. Perhaps some might not think it's business-like but if India's wealth is built up to include those 70 per cent of people living in poverty.India's consumer market would be the best in the world," said Dr. Nair.

Jagmohan Singh, general secretary for the N.R.I. Institute, said, "Dr. Nair is a path breaking entrepreneur who is among top 50 outstanding Asian Americans in business. His contributions to the field of science and technology and business remain both unique and constructive and they place him in the league of some of the most reputed and successful Indians around the world."

An Oxford-educated scientist, Dr. Nair began his career as a scientist in the U.K. nuclear industry but retrained as an accountant in the early 1990s. He founded Nair and Co. in 1994. He currently oversees the group's overall development, its policies, strategies and goals.
