London, Jan 15 (DPA) Otto, a British dachshund officially crowned the oldest dog in the world, has died just a month short of his 21st birthday, British media reported Friday.

Its owner, Lynn Jones, said Otto, recognized as the world's oldest dog by the Guinness Book of Records in October, died of stomach cancer and was put down Thursday.

Otto, a cross between a dachshund and terrier, would be cremated Friday at his home in Shrewsbury, in the county of Shropshire, western England.

Tributes to Otto, who would have been 21 Feb 14, poured in on his own page on social networking website Facebook. His age translates into 147 human years.
