Manmohan Singh condoles death of school children in Karnataka

New Delhi, Aug.15 (ANI): The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, on Friday condoled the death of school children in the bus tragedy that occurred in Dakshin Kannada district near Mangalore city yesterday.

He has sanctioned Rs.1 lakh compensation to be given to the families of the deceased and Rs.50,000 to each of the injured. t least 11 persons, including eight children died after a bus in which they were travelling plunged into the Palguni River near Mangalore.

The accident took place in the early hours of Thursday morning when the driver of the mini bus carrying school children lost control over the vehicle due to heavy water logging on the road and the bus skidded down the slope.

The Karnataka Government has already announced an ex-gratia of Rs one lakh to the family of the dead.

Around 30 children were travelling in the bus. (ANI)
