Kolkata, Feb 16 (IANS) The West Bengal government Tuesday condemned the Maoist attack on a West Midnapore police camp which killed 24 security personnel, and termed it as an attempt by the rebels to disrupt normal life in the state.

State Chief Secretary Ashok Mohan Chakraborty told reporters here: 'These ultras are trying to disrupt normal life in the state. But they won't be able to do so. We condemn such kind of attacks.'

A high-level meeting, headed by state Director General of Police Bhupinder Singh, was convened at West Midnapore's Belpahari police station to chalk out the next line of action against the Maoists.

A group of 60-strong Maoist ultras attacked the police camp at Silda, killing 24 Eastern Frontier Rifles (EFR) jawans and looted around 40 firearms and also ammunition.

Top Maoist leader Kishanji alias Koteshwar Rao has claimed responsibility for the attack in West Midnapore's Silda camp.
