Indore, Feb 16 (IANS) Resolutions on the country's national security and economic scenario will be passed by the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) apex body, the national council, which meets here Thursday for the first time after the party's second consecutive defeat in the Lok Sabha elections last summer.

The three-day BJP national convention begins Wednesday with a meeting of the national executive and will last till Friday. The national council will meet on the last two days, during which the appointment of Nitin Gadkari as the new party chief will be ratified.

Addressing media persons here at Kushabhau Thakre Nagar, party general secretary Ananth Kumar said: 'There will be two specific resolutions on national security and economic scenario of the country, which will be presented in the national council meet on Feb 18 and 19.'

Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley will present the resolution on national security whereas former finance minister Yashwant Sinha will present the economic resolution, he added.

According to Ananth Kumar, the resolution on national security will include terrorism, Maoism, infiltration by China in Arunachal Pradesh, the proposed India-Pakistan talks and the statement of Home Minister P. Chidambaram on the return of Kashmiri militants from Pakistan-administered Kashmir. These resolution will be passed on the last day of the concil meet.

Besides these resolutions, the party will also discuss the Ranganath Mishra Commission report recommending reservations for minorities in government jobs, climate change in relation to the Copenhagen Conference, and organisational issues.

Senior party leader Murli Manohar Joshi will give a power point presentation whereas general secretary (organisation) Ramlal will present the party's organisational plans.

'Other than this, the party will focus mainly on good governance, development and antyodaya (welfare of the poorest),' Ananth Kumar said.

The BJP has also organised exhibitions here at the meeting venue showing priciples of antyodaya, good governance and development.

'The last day we will organise a big rally named 'Sangharsh ka Shankhnad' (beginning of struggle). Theafter, the party will give a call of 'Sansad Chalo' (march to parliament). People have no faith left in the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance as sky-rocketing prices of essential commodities and matters of internal security have affected their life miserably,' he said.
