Chennai, March 16 (IANS) Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi is expected to visit Tiruchirapalli (Trichy) in Tamil Nadu Wednesday to oversee the ongoing Youth Congress elections in the state.

The exercise to elect the Youth Congress office-bearers at the local level is going on in Tamil Nadu.

Rahul Gandhi, who is keen to see the party's ascendancy in the state, is expected to make a flying visit to Trichy, some 300 km from here.

When contacted, police officials in Trichy told IANS they have been informed about Rahul Gandhi's tentative visit and the force is geared up to provide necessary security.

This will be Rahul Gandhi's second visit to Tamil Nadu since his three-day visit to the state last September to revitalise the party in general as well as the Youth Congress in the state.

In a massive membership drive launched last year, around 1.3 million members have been added to the Youth Congress in the state, Mayura S. Jayakumar, a Youth Congress leader, told IANS.
