RK Nagar (Tripura West district), Oct 16 Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar has claimed that insurgent groups operating in the northeastern Indian states have camps in Bangladesh. "The main camps of insurgent forces of northeast India is in Bangladesh. Earlier, they had their camps mainly in Myanmar and Bhutan. Though now the number of such camps has come down, but we cannot say for sure that these camps have been demolished in those countries," said Sarkar while addressing trainee constables of the Tripura State Rifles during a passing out parade here on Thursday. "I will strongly fight the insurgent groups. I have received such a good training that I can succeed anywhere," said Maninder Singh, a cadet. Northeast India is home to over 200 ethnic and tribal groups. Over 50 rebel groups are said to be active in the region that is circled by China, Bhutan, Myanmar and Bangladesh. The National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) is one of several rebel groups fighting for autonomy or independence in the northeastern region where many political movements are linked to tribal feuds or ethnic rights. Tripura, which juts into Bangladesh, has been plagued by insurgency for over two decades. (ANI)
