Washington, Oct 16 After several revelations about Iran's ability to design and produce nuclear weapons, numerous American intelligence agencies' are considering to conduct a re-assessment of Tehran's nuclear programs.

According to reports, U.S. spy agencies are considering whether to rewrite a controversial 2007-intelligence report (National Intelligence Estimate or NIE), which asserted that Tehran had halted its efforts to build nuclear weapons in 2003.

Though no decision has been made yet, rewriting NIE would be a major task, as it is the most comprehensive U.S. intelligence report and reflects the combined judgment of all 16 American intelligence bodies.

The 2007 NIE had reversed Washington's claims that Iran was pursuing a nuclear-weapons program, on the other hand it found that Tehran had halted its nuclear weapons program in 2003, and had not been restarted as of mid-2007.

"So far, intelligence officials are not ready to declare that invalid," Fox News quoted a senior U.S. intelligence official, as saying.

However, the official emphasized that the judgment had covered the 2003-2007 time frame only, and that leaves an option for a reassessment of the period since December 2007.

"The spy agencies have a lot more information since we last did a NIE. Some of it tracks precisely with what we've seen before, while other information causes us to reassess what we've seen before," the official added.

In recent months, Britain, France, Germany and Israel were disputing the conclusion made in the 2007 report, saying that the work had been resumed.

Earlier, in a confidential analysis made by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), titled "Possible Military Dimensions of Iran's Nuclear Program," it had presented evidence that beyond improving upon bomb-making information gathered from rogue nuclear experts around the world, Iran has done extensive research and testing on how to fashion the components of a weapon.
