Cape Town (South Africa), Apr.17 Kolkata Knight Riders coach John Buchanan has reportedly decided that former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly will not be the captain of the IPL franchisee in their first match of the IPL tournament on April 18.

Buchanan has reportedly opted for destructive Kiwi keeper-batsman Brendon McCullum.

The move comes as part of Buchanan's multi-captaincy scheme, reports Times Now.

Buchanan had earlier removed Ganguly as the sole leader at KKR in March causing protests in Kolkata. However team owner Shahrukh Khan had maintained that Dada will continue to remain the 'main man' in the team. But this latest development is sure to raise eyebrows in Kolkata's cricketing circles.

The run up to the second Indian Premier League season has been extremely dramatic for Kolkata Knight Riders who have remained in news due to the stir caused by the captaincy row. Ganguly though will remain a part of the senior management group in the team along with west indies batsman Chris Gayle.

Kiwi hardhitter Brendon McCullum exploded on the IPL scene with his brilliant knock of 156 against the Bangalore Royal Challengers in the opening edition of the Indian Premier League last year. McCullums knock set the ball rolling for the IPL and is still the highest ever score in a T20 match. The Knight Riders will now be hoping he can reproduce some of that brilliance in the second edition of the IPL. (ANI)
