New Delhi, June 17 Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee received varied proposals from allied ministries vis-à-vis allocations in the Union Budget that he has planned to present.

Among those who submitted the respective ministry's suggestions was Minister of Urban Development, S Jaipal Reddy who called on the Finance Minister here on Tuesday.

Reddy sought more budgetary allocations for his ministry so as to hasten the extensive new projects undertaken for the Commonwealth Games to be staged in the national capital in 2010.

Talking to reporter after the meeting, Reddy said, "There should be more budgetary provisions for excess expenditure required for the ensuing Commonwealth Games."

Meanwhile, Minister of Power Sushil Kumar Shinde in his meeting with the Finance Minister sought for more funds for rural electrification under the Rajiv Gandhi Gramin Vidyutikaran Scheme.

Shinde said the meeting was fruitful.

"I am very happy with the Finance Minister that I represented my power department, you see...cases to be considered before the budget is presented and particularly represented on Rajiv Gandhi Gramin Vidyutikaran Scheme to give more money APDRP (Accelerated Power Development Programme)...and reducing the losses in the country," he added.

As part of the pre-budget exercise, Mukherjee customarily holds parleys with various stakeholders, state finance ministers, industrialist groups, leading economists, trade unionists and top officials of various financial institutions.

The Union Cabinet on Monday decided to hold the Budget session from July 2 to 7 while the General Budget will be presented on July 6.

It was also decided that the Economy Survey would be presented on July 2.

Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh presented an interim budget for the 2009/10 (April/March) in February ahead of the general elections in April and May.

In its five budgets since 2004, the Congress party-led coalition has raised spending on health, education and rural employment. (ANI)
