London, Nov 17 Experts have claimed that second-hand cars can cost more than new ones in the long run, especially where repairs are concerned.

In a survey conducted, it was found that drivers pay 525 pounds a year more on average to keep a used car, as tyres and other parts wear out and warranties lapse, reports the Daily Express.

The RAC's cost of motoring index says used cars up to six years old with 36,000 miles on the clock can cost about 2,744 pounds a year to run.

Road tax is 29 pounds a year more for an old car with higher emissions while insurance is 63 pounds dearer.

Old cars also use more petrol, which will have an impact on fuel costs when VAT goes back to 17.5 per cent in January. (ANI)
