Yekaterinberg (Russia), Nov 17 (RIA Novosti) A Russian police officer from the Urals city of Severouralsk killed himself after accidentally shooting his female colleague dead, an official said Tuesday.

Pavel Limonov, 26, accidentally fired a shot as he was handing over his weapon late Monday after his day-shift on duty.

'The bullet rebounded from a wall and hit police officer Natalya Zakharova in the head. She died of her injuries,' said Valery Gorelykh, a police official.

When Limonov realised that his 33-year-old colleague was dead, he shot himself in the head.

Limonov is survived by a four-year-old son, Zakharova is survived by an 11-year-old son.
