Guwahati, Nov 17 The Assamese film industry has not been doing too well in recent times, but the success of the recently released "Jibon Bator Logori" has provided a boost to the industry.

"Jibon Bator Logori", an Assamese feature film directed by Timothy Das Hanse, was recently released in 25 theatres across the State.

It was the first time ever that an Assamese film has been released simultaneously in a number of cinema halls.

The director of the film, Timothy Hanse, said that its success will encourage other Assamese filmmakers to make special efforts to breathe life into the industry.

"Publicity is very essential so we are giving wide publicity and people are responding us so I think for the other film also people should give wide publicity and people will respond," Hanse said

Kapil Bora, an Assamese actor, said: "The new generation is not just interested in cinema. So, we have to rise up to the fact that we are Assamese first, so people residing in Assam are Assamese. So once they realize that, once they are sure of their identity, I think cinema will follow their familiarities with Assamese literature and everything will follow. Because if we do not become aware of our roots, I think we can't do much in life."

The Assam Government is also doing its bit to promote the Assamese film industry, by organizing film festivals, and relaxing Entertainment charges.

Mina Das Baruah, a local cinema enthusiast, said that he was happy to see the recent development of the industry.

"After a long gap I am very happy to see an Assamese movie and had always liked the acting of Nipen Goswami and Molioya Goswami. And, it was good today. After the low that the Assamese film has witnessed, we hope it will rise up again and whatever Assamese movies are made we will always watch them and will take out some time for them," Baruah said.

The film, 'Jibon Bator Logori' is based on a love story that explores the Assamese social system and its inherent problems.

Replete with love, romance, tragedy and comedy, and the ups and downs of life, the film is a complete family drama.

The success of Jiban Bator Logori comes as a shot in the arm for filmmakers and the industry that is on the revival path in the state. By Peter Alex Todd(ANI)
