Mumbai, Here is an opportunity for aspiring fast bowlers to hit national limelight, sponsered by thanks to Gatorade, the world’s most popular sports drink from the PepsiCo portfolio. The Mumbai Zonal Selection rounds for “Gatorade Pacers 2009”, the nationwide talent hunt to help Indian Cricket find its next fast bowling sensation, is going to be held on January 17th and 18th 2009 at the PJ Hindu Gymkhana, Marine Lines, Mumbai and the trials will start in morning 8 o'clock. A panel of selectors led by T.A. Sekar, India’s leading fast bowling coach & Chief Selector of Gatorade Pacers and Mr. Javagal Srinath, India’s fast bowling legend, will screen the participants and evaluate their pace bowling skills and potentials. The selection panel also includes Mr. Suru Nayak, former India Test Cricketer and Mumbai’s leading cricket coach. Announcing this here today, Mr. Sandeep Walunj, Vice President, Innovation, PepsiCo India, said “Gatorade is the most popular sports drink amongst cricketers worldwide, so it is only appropriate that the brand plays a catalyst in identifying the next fast bowling sensation in our country. Gatorade Pacers 2009 is an ideal platform for budding pacers to showcase their talent and get noticed by leading talent shapers like T A Sekar and Javagal Srinath , which is likely to give their career a huge boost.” Mr. T A Sekar, India’s leading fast bowling coach, who is the Mentor and Chief Selector of the activity said “Gatorade Pacers has established itself as a sincere and successful fast bowling talent hunt in the country. Gatorade is a true talent spotter and I am privileged to help them in both spotting and shaping the talent. What makes this initiative special, I think, is the stringent selection criteria that we have put in place which is very objective and result-oriented. We do not just look at speed but also accuracy, variation and attitude.” Gatorade Pacers 2009 was launched in New Delhi on 1st December 2008 in the presence of India’s pace bowling legend Javagal Srinath, who has been associated with this mission since its inception in 2007. Zonal trials of 2009 have been held at New Delhi and Chandigarh on Jan 10th and 11th and received stupendous response from pacers, coaches & State Cricket Association with close to 2000 pacers being screened at both venues. Gatorade, World’s No. 1 Sports Drink has been successfully conducting this annual talent hunt since 2007 to help Indian Cricket find its next fast bowling sensation. Of the 13 national winners so far, 9 are already part of prestigious teams like State Ranji teams or IPL probables. The selection process of this third edition of Gatorade Pacers involves measuring bowling speed with a speed gun coupled with expert assessment of action, accuracy, fitness and potential of the bowler. Winners of Under -15, Under-19 and Under- 22 from each zonal competition will be selected and provided with a structured training-cum-selection session to be conducted by India’s leading fast bowling coach T.A. Sekar, Mr. Javagal Srinath and Gatorade Master Trainer Ms Nisha Verma, at the national finals in New Delhi on February 3rd and 4th. The national winners of the hunt will receive an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be groomed by Mr. T.A. Sekar through structured training programs and their progress will be regularly monitored over a period of three years. Gatorade Pacers 2008 looked at 3800+ aspirants form 1200 schools, colleges, State Cricket Association, Academies and finally selected 10 for training at the MRF Pace Foundation. Three of these are at National Cricket Academy ever since, two are playing for Maharashtra in the Ranji Trophy and one is playing for the MRF Pace Foundation Team. Three of these are also IPL probables (Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals). Participants can register on the spot at the venue but they are suggested to pre-register at www.gatorade.co.in to avoid last minute rush at the venue.
