Noida, Nov 18 (IANS) A 24-year-old man here shot dead his cousin sister Wednesday, days before she was to get married. He then turned the gun on himself and was said to be in a critical condition.

Jasveer Chauhan alias Bablu shot his 21-year-old cousin Anjali Chauhan at her house in Barola area of Noida, police said. Anjali was to get married Nov 22.

Around 1 p.m., when Anjali's parents had gone to the market, Bablu took a revolver and shot Anjali in the head, killing her immediately.

Bablu then shot himself in the neck. On hearing the gunshots, neighbours rushed to the house, a police official said. The accused has been admitted to hospital and is stated to be critical.

'From initial enquiry, it seems Bablu was opposed to his cousin Anjali's wedding. She was getting married to someone in Sonepat in Haryana. Bablu also belongs to Sonepat and had come here just a day back,' said R.K. Saini, inspector in-charge of the Sector-49 police station.

'It remains to be investigated if Bablu was having an affair with Anjali that led him to take this extreme step...We are questioning the girl's parents and other family members to know more about them,' Saini told IANS.

On a complaint by Anjali's father Devendra Chauhan, a case has been registered against Bablu at the Sector-49 police station, the official said.
