Jaipur, Aug 20 (ANI): Rahim Khan alias Habib Miyan, believed to be the oldest man in India, died in Jaipur.

Miyan, who was 139-year-old, and was suffering with fever and a bout of dysentery, died at his residence on Tuesday.

Miyan 's demise left his family and friends in distress.

"I'm very sad. It has still not sunk in that he is longer amongst us. He had casually said that his time had come. I had cajoled him saying that he will continue to live much longer," said Rajesh Nagpal, an acquaintance of Habib.

His demise also marks the end of the oldest member of the Muslim community in the country.

"It is very sad that the oldest member of our community passed away," said Saleem Qazi, a resident.

Miyan was born on May 20, 1878, and had the privilege of witnessing his six generations.

He had worked in the erstwhile Jaipur as a Band Master and was getting pension for the last 65 years which was also a record in itself for receiving pension for such a long time.

Earlier, his pension was fixed at just 1.86 rupees, which was later increased to 2112 rupees. (ANI)
