Sydney, Aug.20 (ANI): The Australian Federal Police (AFP) has been accused of deliberately withholding information from the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in the Mohamed Haneef investigation. "This submission from the DPP, Australia's primary prosecutorial agency, shows that the AFP ignored the ground rules for obtaining early, high level legal advice,'' news.com.au quoted Haneef's lawyer Rod Hodgson, as saying. "They apparently orchestrated a campaign to keep the DPP in the dark, and feed snippets of misleading information for as long as possible,'' he added. Dr Haneef was arrested at Brisbane airport and detained for 12 days without charge last year over suspected links to botched terror attacks in Britain.e was later charged, but the case against him collapsed amid accusations of bungling by the authorities. Hodgson repeated calls for the police to offer a public submission to the inquiry, which is being led by John Clarke QC. The AFP has made a submission to Clarke but it so far remains confidential.(ANI)
