London, October 21 Amy Winehouse's father Mitch has told British MPs that his singer daughter has been staying away from drugs for a year now. The former taxi driver made the revelation about the star, who has spent several stints in rehab clinics for her drug use, at the House Of Commons during a session on the cocaine trade. Mitch accused the country's healthcare system of failing to meet the required number of facilities for heroin addicts who could not afford treatment. "We were very fortunate - we were able to afford the best doctors, clinical psychologists, rehabilitation and hospitals," The BBC quoted him as saying. "We're making a film about people who can't afford it and unfortunately we found there are very few facilities and very little help available for people like that," he added. The National Treatment Agency for Substance Misuse, which is part of the NHS, on the other hand, disagreed with Mitch's remarks. Chief executive Paul Hayes said: "Drug treatment in England has never been more available to members of the public who need it. We think it is important that the public knows that, if they or a family member needs help, they can get it on the NHS." (ANI)
