A massive jolt between 2 trains caused heavy deaths. New Delhi, At least 21 people were killed and 20 others injured, when Goa Express crashed into Mewar Express near Mathura early on Wednesday. A railway official said that initial investigation shows that the driver of Goa Express ignored signals. The injured have been shifted to Mathura and Vrindavan hospitals. Police say the Army may have to be called in for rescue operations. The collision occurred around 5.30am on Wednesday. One of the bogeys of the Mewar Express is reported to be completely damaged and gas cutters are being used to break open bogies. The smashed coach was reserved for women and physically handicapped people, although some additional people may have been among the victims, District Magistrate Suresh Chandra Sharma said. SSP, Mathura, B D Paulson said 18 people have been rescued from the coach which was packed with women and children. The luggage part of the coach probably prevented heavier casualties, he said. Railway officials said the driver of the Goa Express was either speeding or may have jumped signal. Authorities are still trying to determine why the accident happened, rail official Sri Prakash said. -Arun Acharya
