New Delhi, Oct 23 Reacting to the result of the Assembly polls that were held in three states, M.K. Pandhe, Politburo member of the Communist Party of India - Marxists (CPI-M), on Friday said that money played a pivotal role in elections this time.

The Marxist party won only one seat in Maharashtra.

"Maharashtra result has not gone in our favour. But money played a very important role this time. I went to Sholapur and Ichalkaranji. There was no meeting and no public propaganda, but money was playing a big role in the elections. Before the elections, I could see the way the Congress tried to win the elections. The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena also helped the Congress. In Haryana of course, the Congress has not fared well. Arunachal, that was also expected earlier, " Pandhe said ahead of the CPM's central committee meeting.

Talking about the agenda of the party's three-day central committee meeting, Pandhe said that political developments as well international issues would be discussed.

"This meeting will view the political development in the country and international situation. It will also discuss the rectification document drafted by the politburo. After discussing the document, it will be released. We will be able to implement the document all over the country to correct all the non-communist norms, which are prevailing in the country, that is the main purpose of the discussion," said Pandhe.

Marxists previously won three seats in the state when it was part of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP)-Congress alliance.

Marxists had tried to use farmer suicides and agrarian crisis as poll planks, saying that ten-year NCP-Congress rule was incompetent. (ANI)
