Mumbai, Dec 23 Management of the Taj Hotel last evening conducted the media to show the interior of the hotel after the November 26 attacks.

The 105-year-old historic Taj Mahal hotel, one of the sites of a 60-hour siege, threw open its doors on Sunday to more than 1,000 clients and guests for a gala reception.

The valuable collection of art and antiques inside the hotel had a miraculous escape. More than 90 per cent of the antique eclectic collection remained unharmed.

However, only the new wing of the hotel, known as The Taj Mahal Tower, will be open in December, and the company has not said when the older part of sprawling Mumbai landmark would reopen.

A guest, who was present in the hotel during the attack in November, said that we would never bow down to the threats of the militants.

"We will never give in to terrorism and that's what we have done. I was the first guest, who was allowed back inside," said Deepak Datta, a guest, who was in the hotel on day of the attack.

Another guest, who was also present on the day of the assault looked satisfied with the security at the hotel after re-opening.

"I think the security is very good. It's very unobtrusive but its good. There is a particular regiment to the way the cars enter," said Suhail Shah, another guest, who was in the hotel on day of attack.

Fire, water, shooting and grenade blasts during the 60-hour siege damaged the hotel which was crowded with fine art, sculptures, chandeliers, photographs, and visitors' books signed by kings, rock stars, business barons and heads of state.

But Taj officials have not quantified the extent of the damage to the hotel. (ANI)
